Oral cancer can be a type of cancer is largely unknown by the public. But it turns out the main drivers of the occurrence of oral cancers are caused by cigarettes and other tobacco products. Oral cancer is a type of cancer found in the oral cavity (mouth area) and the oropharynx (the throat behind the mouth). Oral cancer can occur on the lips, gums, teeth, tongue, inside the cheek lining, a small area behind the wisdom teeth as well as ceiling and floor of the mouth (under the tongue).

The main cause of oral cancer is the use of tobacco, an estimated 80-90 percent of oral cancer caused by smoking, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco and dipping tobacco.

This is because of all tobacco products contain toxic substances, carcinogens (cancer causing agents) and nicotine (the addictive substance). Because of all tobacco products is associated with an increased risk of oral cancer are:

1. Cigarette
Smoking is the most common form of tobacco is widely used. American Cancer Society says that about 80 percent of people with oral cancer are tobacco users. This is because there are more than 60 carcinogens that can cause mutations in DNA.

2. Cigars and pipes
Cigars and pipes are often perceived as less harmful than cigarettes, but the risk is the same. Pipe smokers are at increased risk for cancer of the lip which becomes the stem of the pipe laid, while the cigar tobacco is generally burn longer and its contents is greater thereby increasing the amount of exposure to cigarette smoke.

3. Chewing tobacco
Chewing tobacco can be in the form of leaves (in containers) or powder form is usually sold in cans. Although this product is considered to be smokeless, but harmful chemicals such as nicotine remains swallowed, and more than 28 cancer-causing chemicals found in smokeless tobacco.

This tobacco product can cause cancer of the cheek, gums and lips, which often begins as leukoplakia (white sores that develop in the mouth or throat) or erythroplakia (red sores that develop in the mouth). Another problem that can arise are periodontal disease, tooth discoloration and bad breath.

Oral cancer occurs when cells in the lips or mouth changes in DNA mutations. These mutations allow the cancer cells grow and divide without control when the healthy cells to die.

This cancer most often begins in squamous cells that line the lips and the inside of the mouth. These cells accumulate and over time spread to other areas of the mouth. Most types of existing oral cancers are squamous cell carcinomas.
